China Eastern to sell Wuhan subsidiary to China SouthernPublished: 23 Mar 2009 00:59:49 PST<p class="authorInfor"]</p]<!--begin CK content--]<P]Mar. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Eastern Airlines Ltd&lt;600115&gt;&lt;670&gt;&lt;CEA&gt;, the country's third-largest carrier, plans to sell its Wuhan subsidiary to China Southern Airlines Ltd&lt;600029&gt;&lt;1055&gt;&lt;ZNH&gt;, as the subsidiary became the biggest loss maker in 2008, according to sources at China Southern. </P]<P]Currently, the two sides are in talks about the possible acquisition. China Eastern expects the deal to help ease its financial problems and further consolidate its business in the domestic market.</P]<P]Due to the severe competition, growth of the aviation sector in Wuhan last year showed signs of slowing, with the passenger volume reaching 9.20 million. China Southern and China Eastern had market share of 40% and 18% respectively.</P]<P]Last week Shanghai-based China Eastern said it would turn its Yunnan branch into a wholly-owned subsidiary. <BR]</P]
