Lv said that Lenovo Mobile has already invested more than RMB 20 million with China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL>, the country's largest telecom operator, to jointly develop a smart phone called the Ophone, which runs the Google Android-based OMS (Open Mobile System) operating system.

The company this year will spend RMB 70 million on TD-SCDMA handset technology, focusing on the development of the Ophone, said Lv.

In the second half of this year, Lenovo Mobile is expected to launch more than 10 3G handsets, of which 70% will be TD-SCDMA handsets.

Lenovo Mobile became a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo Group when the PC maker bought a 19.2% stake from its joint venture partner Xiamen Overseas Chinese Electronic Co Ltd for nearly RMB 72 million in 2006.
